SYMPOSIUM 2016

3rd European Albino Meeting

This was a two day meeting held in Milan/Italy on April 7th – April 8th 2016 to promote awareness for albinism, trigger collaborative research projects on albinism, and facilitate collaborative efforts between the different associations in support of albino people. The goal was an increased understanding of the disease for patients and scientists.  In addition, new topics on the disease were introduced: psychological and pedagogic support.

During the first day of the 3rd European albino meeting, researchers presented individual results obtained from different European laboratories, new epidemiological data and therapeutic approaches as well as scientific innovations of the past two years from around the world.  Members of patient associations discussed with an expert about the special educational needs in the albino community as well as the focus on psychomotor skills in the educational plan of the visually impaired albino child. The second day was a communal event with summaries from the scientific community as well as the self-help group, and joint discussion between both sides.

"The meeting was extraordinary, a lot of people, scientists, patients, youngs....we all had great time and started new plan for the next activities on albinism. Thank you again for your pretious support."  Silvana Penco and Elisa Tronconi
