“We want to give those affected children a voice and bring a little joy to their lives. We want to actively help them.” - Dr. Anja Frankenberger-Meyer, board member
Kindness for Kids’ approach in helping children with rare diseases is two-fold: at a social as well as at a scientific level. With our social projects, we would like to give the children a little lightheartedness and the right dose of self-confidence they desperately need to make them feel strong - ideally just like a (carefree) child.
The foundation organizes and funds holiday camps with medical assistance and vacations assisted by therapists in Bavaria, Hamburg, Baden-Württemberg and Schleswig-Holstein. The little patients and their siblings are to experience fun and games and make new friends who share the same challenges as well as a new dimension of mobility and vitality, whereas their parents are to let go of their tough everyday lives and find relaxation and the exchange of experiences with other families.
Scientifically, we aim to increase the quality of life of children with rare diseases by improving the health care situation and in that regard count on our annual health care award. Our current flagship project is the establishment of an innovaitve tenure-track professorship in health care services research for children with rare diseases. Additionally, we promote basic research with our PhD- and Postdoc-fellowships in order to help develop new medication and therapies. And last but not least, with our partially financed symposia and congresses we aim to increase the knowledge transfer between scientists, medical doctors and the families affected.
